The ancient Roman town of Nimes is situated on the old Via Dormitia road that ran from Italy through France and down to Spain. Nimes had a close association with a Roman army that fought in ancient Egypt and Africa and the town crest of arms stills bears the symbol of the crocodile - an emblem adopted by the army. Pezenas, the ancient capital of Languedoc is one of the prettiest towns in the South of France. A popular holiday distination due to its close proximity to the Mediterranean beaches, the mountains, the vineyards and of course its wonderful architecture; Pezenas is a great place to soak up the ambience of the South of France. The ancient Roman town of Narbonne is situated close to the Mediterranean coast. The town hosts some impressive Roman artefacts. Montpellier is the capital of the Languedoc region. It is a vibrant, buzzing city, that is a joy to walk around. In between Sete and Cap d'Agde on the Languedoc coast there is the Etang de Thau, an inland lake separated from the sea by a thin strip of beach.
